Below is a starter list of resources which could help you share your story – whether to the media, funders, or the general public.

This is not a definitive list, and we will continue to add more resources to this page over time. If you think there are other useful resources that we could add, please get in touch

Learning, evaluation and sharing your findings

Evaluating your work can help your track your progress, demonstrate your worth to funders and share learning about what approaches work. We think this is important, and if you are applying for our funding we’re happy for you to include some costs to make this happen.

The Big Lottery Fund has produced a guide on self-evaluation, to help you demonstrate the value of your work. Please get in touch if you would like further support.

Evaluation Support Scotland offers workshops and case studies to help with measuring and evaluating the impact of your work, as well as support guides for those who have secured funding.

The Social Investment Business group provides consulting services to organisations wishing to evidence the social impact of their work.

Blake Stevenson provides consulting services to support organisations with evaluation, development and research needs.

New Philanthropy Capital provides consulting services for impact measurement and measuring well-being.

The Scottish Community Development Centre has planning and evaluation resources for use with a specific learning and evaluation framework (the LEAP framework).

Social Value Lab offers an evaluation support service and can also help with self-evaluation.

The NCVO Charities Evaluation Services has online evaluation guidance and offers a consultancy service to support voluntary organisations with outcome and impact measurement.

Marketing and promotion

The NHS has produced a short downloadable guide on how to promote your work to inspire change

The National Social Marketing Network highlights the role of social marketing in behaviour change with online case studies.

The Media Trust provides online advice on how to market online, position and promote your work.

The Chartered Institute of Public Relations offers best practice notes and skills guides on communications

Branding and public relations

The Chartered Institute of Public Relations provides training workshops in branding and public relations.

The Media Trust provides advice and top tips from on public relations.

Digital and social media

The Big Lottery’s online Community is free to join, and is a great place for grant holders and grant seekers to share successes, learning, news and events or ask questions.

The BIG Lottery Scotland’s press team are here to help you with social media where they can – feel free to get in touch.

Be Good Be Social runs regular events to bring together third sector professionals interested in using social media for social good.

The Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations’ digital partnership in Scotland has put together resources and a list of useful links to free online learning resources for digital skills.
